SOUTH EAST HEALTH LTD
If you need emergency treatment when your GP surgery is closed (between 6.30pm and 8am Monday to Friday) and throughout the weekends and public holidays, call SOUTH EAST HEALTH LTD on 0844 800 1234 you will be asked a set of questions to decide if:
- Your problem can be dealt with over the phone
- You need to attend one of the clinical bases
- You need an emergency ambulance
Most cases can be dealt with over the phone. If it has been decided you need a telephone consultation, your call will be passed to either a nurse advisor or doctor.
If you need to be seen
If your problem can't be sorted over the phone you will be given an appointment to attend one of the clinical bases (see below). When you arrive you will be seen by a doctor. SOUTH EAST HEALTH LTD do not operate a drop in service and you will not be seen if you do not have an appointment.
The bases are:
- Queen Victoria Memorial Hospital, (KING Edward Ave), Herne Bay
- Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother Hospital, Margate
- Minor Injuries Unit, Buckland Hospital, Dover
- Outpatients Department, Victoria Hospital, Deal
Why do I have to go to SOUTH EAST HEALTH LTD instead of getting a home visit?
Home visits have to be restricted to exceptional circumstances, such as for the truly bed-bound, frail or elderly, or if the patient's condition means that they cannot travel. High quality care is best provided in medical centres and a home visit is not always appropriate.
Getting the right treatment
It is important to remember that hospital Accident and Emergency Departments (A&E) are designed to treat emergencies only. An emergency is a critical or life threatening situation, which may include loss of consciousness, severe breathing difficulties, deep wounds, severe chest pain or heavy loss of blood. SOUTH EAST HEALTH LTD will provide urgent medical treatment if you can't wait until the GP surgery opens again.
There are situations, during the day, where you may not need to contact your GP but can get help from NHS Direct, your local pharmacist or minor injuries unit, as well as treating minor ailments at home.
